Among the town's early industries were Luther Lincoln's sawmill, established in 1826; the Plymouth Flour Mill, built about 1850; and May and Hendrick's rake plant located on Main Street in the 1850's. The first real factory, which stood at the corner of Main and Union streets in the 1870's made fanning mills used to clean grain by the action of riddles, sieves, and an air blast.
